On June 15th, the Alpha Alpha Zeta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. hosted a vibrant and meaningful Juneteenth celebration at Latimer Lake Park in Horn Lake, Mississippi. The event was filled with joy, education, and community spirit, drawing in attendees from all walks of life to honor the significance of Juneteenth.
Event Highlights
Black History Trivia: The day kicked off with an engaging Black History Trivia session that brought participants together in friendly competition. The trivia not only tested knowledge but also educated attendees on pivotal moments and figures in Black history.
Voter Information Booth: Empowering the community through voter education was a key focus. Our voter information booth provided essential resources and guidance, encouraging civic participation and awareness.
Creative Crafts: Creativity was in full swing with various craft activities. Attendees, both young and old, enjoyed hands-on experiences that allowed them to express their artistic talents and take home unique mementos.
Delicious Food Trucks: The tantalizing aromas from an array of food trucks filled the air, offering a diverse selection of delicious foods. From classic Southern dishes to innovative culinary delights, there was something to satisfy every palate.
Art Exhibits: Local artists showcased their work, adding a visual feast to the celebration. The art displays highlighted the richness of Black culture and creativity, sparking inspiration and admiration among viewers.
Epic Kid Zone: For our younger attendees, the kid zone was an absolute hit. With games, activities, and fun surprises, children had a blast in a safe and entertaining environment.
Performance by the Young Actors Guild African Drummers and Dancers: The day reached its pinnacle with a breathtaking performance by the Young Actors Guild African Drummers and Dancers. Their powerful rhythms and captivating movements left the audience in awe, celebrating African heritage through music and dance.
The energy, enthusiasm, and sense of community at our Juneteenth celebration were truly unforgettable. We are grateful to everyone who attended and contributed to making this event a resounding success.
